Council Depot site to provide 68 homes

February 9th, 2007 by Paul Johnston

Finally!! After 9 years of intense lobbying from residents, the sale of the Bay Central Council rubbish depot was concluded by tender process with DevBuild Corporation emerging as the preferred developer/builder. The 5.5 hectare site is to become a mixture of high density (Bayview Road), multi-use (Bridgewater Road) with 25 premium allotments being offered as absolute beachfront.

COUNCIL DEPOT SITE TO PROVIDE 68 HOMES
As the appointed agent, I am already receiving expressions of interest from buyers wanting to secure land and an official launch release is scheduled for early April. I encourage interested parties to continue to contact me about registering their interest as Stage 1 of this exciting development comes to fruition.

About time! This dump should have been moved yonks ago. I know I should enquire via the Council but they are so slow in getting back to me. Andrew, what I want to know is, will there still be a walkway through the development to save one walking all the way around? Susan Fleet

I’m sure all residents are pleased with the positive outcome for this site and yes, the existing walkway will be retained and another is to be built towards the northern end. Both interconnect the beach and will ensure easy access to The Promenade is available with the primary aim of minimising traffic congestion along the beachfront. I have copies of the plans if you wish to view – simply call myself or visit our office.
